Sundays At Monkey Ranch:

24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Genesis 1:24-26

Sunday Stillness at the Monkey Ranch:
“The Raccoon and the Reach”

By Boss Monkey

Howdy, friends—Boss Monkey here, comin’ at you from the porch swing at The Monkey Ranch. The sun’s just peekin’ over the pines, the coffee’s hot, and it’s Sunday again—time to hush the hustle and lean into a little stillness.

Now let me tell y’all about somethin’ that happened the other night. My trail cam picked up a familiar little critter sneakin’ around again. Yep—you guessed it—a raccoon. Not stormin’ in like a bandit, but slinkin’ in soft as a sigh. Quiet. Deliberate. Hungry for those sunflower seeds I’d left out for the birds.

That little fella stood tall on a stump, stretched himself real careful, and with the patience of a saint—or maybe a preacher’s wife on potluck Sunday—he fiddled with the feeder ‘til he got himself a midnight snack.

And while I was sittin’ there watchin’ that video, mug in hand, wrapped in the quiet of the ranch, I got to thinkin’… ain’t we all got a little raccoon in us?

We reach for things. We stretch toward what we want. We balance ourselves between what we know is right and what looks like it’d satisfy us. Sometimes we sneak around tryin’ to grab hold of blessings we weren’t quite meant to take—at least not yet. Other times, we stand on faith’s edge, hopin’ the good stuff will just fall into our lap if we wait long enough.

But friends, here’s the thing: God didn’t design us to be raccoons in the dark. He calls us to walk in the light—with trust, with peace, and with open hands.

The Good Book says in Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” If God’s got the birds covered, don’t you think He’s got you covered, too?

So today, instead of stretchin’ and schemin’ for what ain’t ours to grab, let’s rest. Let’s trust that what’s meant for us will come—not by clawin’ for it, but by standin’ steady in faith.

And when anxiety starts whisperin’, let’s remember Philippians 4:6-7:

Don’t be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

That peace? It don’t come from reachin’. It comes from restin’.
So breathe deep, friend. Your portion’s comin’.
Right on time.
