Excerpt from Book One: Feelings Are Real (And Okay)
Michal flopped onto his bed, face first, and pulled the covers over his head.
The day had been heavy. Too heavy.
It wasn’t one big thing that had gone wrong.
It was all the little things piled up:
- Someone teased him at lunch.
- His math test came back with a big red C.
- His best friend, Caleb, had played with someone else at recess.
All day long, Michal had tried to smile like it didn’t bother him.
All day long, he had pushed the feelings down like stuffing socks in a drawer.
Now, with the lights off and the world finally quiet, the feelings pushed back.
That’s when he felt it—
A soft, warm breeze…
A flicker of purple light…
And then the soft voice:
“Hey there, sport,” Doolittle said, sitting cross-legged at the foot of the bed.
“Looks like your heart’s carrying a backpack too heavy for just one little fella.”
Michal didn’t answer right away.
But somehow, the covers slipped down, and the first words he whispered surprised even himself:
“I’m tired of feeling everything.”
Doolittle nodded slowly.
“Feelings can feel big.
Sometimes they fill up the whole room.
But that don’t mean you have to carry them alone, son.
It just means you’re growing.”
